National Preparedness Month:
Build a Kit with Everyone in Mind
Families come is all shapes and sizes, which is why it is important to approach building a kit with your unique needs in mind. Assembling disaster supplies can begin with the basics. Start by making a list of various supplies you’ll need to both get through the storm and its aftermath. Here’s our list of recommendations:
- Food & Water for 3 days per household member
- Radio, batteries, and chargers – portable crank or solar-powered options would be best
- Keep cash on hand, in the event that electricity and internet our out retailers will be unable to process electronic payments
- Blankets & Clothing
- Fill up on gas ahead of the storm, this is necessary should an evacuation be ordered
Consider adding additional Emergency Supplies based on your family’s needs:
- Prescription medications and medical devices
- Pet collar with ID and a harness or leash
- Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
- Important family documents and records
Keep your kits maintained and accessible so they are ready when needed.
