One very important but often overlooked but part of preparing for a storm is insurance. Be sure to reach out to offer your policyholders an insurance checkup. Remember, flood damage is not commonly covered on a homeowner’s policy and it takes 30 days for a new flood insurance policy to become effective. Here’s our quick insurance-related checklist to share with your policyholders:

• Understand your options
• Consider a flood insurance policy for flood specific damages
• Conduct an annual inventory of your household items
• Store your insurance documents in a safe place and keep electronic copies on your computer and smartphone
