Hurricane Awareness Week:
Complete A Written Plan
The National Weather Service advises that, “The time to prepare for a storm is before the season begins, when you have the time and are not under pressure.” Waiting until the zero hour to plan can result is costly mistakes. Writing a plan helps to ensure that you are well prepared for a storm. Here’s a shortlist of action items to include in your written storm preparedness plan:
- Complete a written and photographic inventory of your home and its contents
- Gather your important documents like birth certificates, passports, deeds, and insurance papers and keep them in a fireproof/waterproof box. Keep digital copies stored on your home computer and backed up to the cloud. If you have to, take pictures of the documents.
- Remember yesterday, we talked about helping your neighbor? Share your written plan with them to help them be prepared as well.
