Part of preparing for a hurricane includes strengthening your home. There are a number of ways to do this that can help to minimize damage sustained during a storm. Keep in mind, in order to best prepare policyholders will want to gather the supplies needed to strengthen their structure well ahead of a storm. We detail these easy mitigation efforts below:
- Cover your windows; popular covers include plywood, steel, or aluminum panels
- Secure all doors and windows
- Secure any loose outdoor furniture or lawn decorations. These items can create additional hazards if picked up by high winds
- Your garage door is the weakest part of a home, be sure to that it is secured, reinforced, and able endure hurricane-force winds
